Mazda 1, it’s a coupe. A Coupe like city car based on the Kiyora concept features in Mazda’s future post 2011, according to European boss James Muir. There’s nothing like this coming in the next two to two and a half years, but we know we need a car that appeals to the growing number of people around the globe who live in cities.

Based on a cut down Mazda 2, the Kiyora isn’t a particularly small car at 3.77mm long, although its roof is relatively low at 1.35m high. The aim of the design, developed in Mazda’s European studio near Frankfurt under Brit Peter, is to see if a two plus two city car with a low roofline can break away from the high roof mini MPV look that’s become typical of the class. Those A segment hatches just don’t look very good or sporty.

For production, the Kiyora would be called the Mazda 1 and would be based on next generation Mazda 2 underpinnings rather than a sharing with the Ford Ka/Fiat Panda. Mazda will start to renew its range in 2011 with a new generation of lightweight platforms, starting with the Mazda 6 and Mazda 2.

With the Kiyora, Mazda has explored clever interior design ideas such as minimalist rear seats made from a new stretchy material hangs across a frame, flexing to accommodate a passenger and the springing back to take up little space. It can give us the best of both worlds room for rear passengers or luggage space.

The Kiyora is a study concept for the global market. It is to build enthusiasm for Mazda, and it’s also designed to show that small cars needn’t be cheap as long as they are desirable.

Unlike the RX 7, the RX 8seems to be a bit boring in terms of performance. Don’t get me wrong, because the RX 8 in my opinion really is good but, despite it being a great car it doesn’t really standout as its predescessor. Many journalists till now still don’t really understand what the RX 8 is in terms of classification.

It’s not really a coupe as it has four doors, thus making it a four seater saloon, but then again really isn’t really one as the rears seats are really a tight squeeze, more suitable for small canines instead of humans! Another thing that boggles my mind is why on earth there isn’t a turbo configuration for the RX 8. Have they gone absolutely mad? Sure there are a couple other makes and models out there that only has a naturally aspirated engine, but unlike the RX , the engine capacity starts at 3.0 litres which the RX 8 is a couple of litres short.

The modification of 13B engine, which was way below par ( in terms of performance ) to what he was used to. To prevent from overhead of lubricant, the 13B engine has been installed with a set of Grex oil cooler which is deemed to be crucial when running at high speeds. Further cooling improvements include a set of RE Amemiya radiator that allows bigger coolant reserve and increase air cooling efficiencies. Transferring all the power down to the tarmac is done via the 4 speed automatic box with manual override. With stock ratios all round, the engine will easily hit speed at over two fifty km/h. However, during the process of reaching up to top speed.

As the speed mentioned, the car on its normal configuration will have a slight wobbly issue due to its ’softer’ suspension settings. Knowing this Jay had replaced the stock shock abserobers for those from Mazda Speed, a tuning house that is renowned for building high performance Mazda’s. Uprated springs and dampers also provide utmost stability at high speeds without compromising comfort while cruising. With this new set up the car is now much lowered with a more aggressive stance.

The interior was well kept and clean with the addition of a set of four Defi indicators on the top part of the windscreen. Besides a boxy screen for the rear view camera can be sitting beside the dDefis. Delaying the rotary engine shutoff is an Apex’i pen type turbo timer, placed neatly behind the steering wheel. Currently the car A/F is running quite rich on fuel, resulting to a sub 300 horsepower and loads of fuel is wasted. Jay is targeting to hit around 400 plus with a higher boost pressure of 1.3 bar once the tuning session is completed.

The seven seater Mazda CX 9 has a sporty look which has a buyer’s appeal and also the carries the Mazda brand image on the outside. The interiors are spacious, the Configuration is more refined and so is the transmission, overall the handling of the car has improved. Mazda has revealed the three-door variant of its successful Mazda 2 small car at Geneva which will boost the carmaker sales in Europe. Like the new Fiesta, Mazda shakes up the small car segment by unveiling a three-door Mazda 2. The Japanese carmaker applied with success its Zoom-Zoom philosophy on this new iteration of its small car. The three-door variant keeps the same length as the five-door model, but the company’s designers took the opportunity to spice up the overall shape by featuring sportier bumpers at the front and at the rear.

The three-door Mazda will be available with a 75bhp 1.3-litre petrol engine, 103bhp 1.5-litre petrol unit and a 68bhp or 90bhp 1.4-litre diesel unit. Mazda will likely launch in the future a MPS version.

Mazda is recalling more than 30,000 CX-9's for some sort of wiring problems-- and sounds like you may want to get your car to the dealer pronto as the official recall notice says, "drivers will experience certain functions that are uncontrollable, which will cause seious difficulties in driving increasing the risk of a crash." Yikes, enough said, here's the info:

Mazda has announced a recall of certain models of its CX-9 SUV due to a wiring problem that could cause the driver's seat to spontaneously change position while the vehicle is in motion.

In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mazda explains, "On certain CX-9 vehicles having the power-adjustable seat with position memory function, the seat harness routed underneath the seat cushion may interfere with the front cover bracket which is attached on the front side of the seat cushion. Due to this, the covering of the seat harness may be damaged, the core wire of the harness may touch with the bracket and result in short-circuit. In the worst case, certain functions such as the seat position, height adjustment and seat back reclining may be activated unexpectedly and be uncontrollable, causing serious difficulty in driving."

The recall affects about 30,000 CX-9s from model years 2007 through 2009, but only those built at Mazda's Hiroshima, Japan factory, which can be identified by their VIN number. Mazda dealers will begin contacting CX-9 owners about the recall next week. Dealers will inspect the wiring of affected vehicles, and if necessary, install a new wiring harness cover to correct the defect. Owners who wish to make their own repair arrangements may contact Mazda at (800) 222-5500.

 MAZDA IS RECALLING 30,600 MY 2007-2009 CX9 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH POWER ADJUSTABLE SEAT WITH POSITION MEMORY FUNCTION. THE SEAT HARNESS ROUTED UNDERNEATH THE SEAT CUSHION MAY INTERFERE WITH THE FRONT COVER BRACKET WHICH IS ATTACHED ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE SEAT CUSHION. DUE TO THIS THE COVERING OF THE SEAT HARNESS MAY BE DAMAGED, THE CORE WIRE OF THE HARNESS MAY TOUCH WITH THE BRACKET AND RESULT IN SHORT CIRCUIT.
Consequence:
  DRIVERS WILL EXPERIENCE CERTAIN FUNCTIONS THAT ARE UNCONTROLLABLE WITCH WILL CAUSE SERIOUS DIFFICULTIES IN DRIVING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
 DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SEAT HARNESS AND FASTEN THE SEAT FRAME WITH A CABLE TIE. THE HARNESS COVERING WILL BE REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MARCH 9, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.

2008 Mazda 2 Preview

Mazda gives us a preview of it’s new B-segment hatchback, the Mazda 2. Updated to modern Mazda design language, gone is the boxy outlook of it’s predecessor, instead you get a sporty hatch which is reminiscent of the Toyota Yaris. The new Mazda 2 is shorter at 3880mm, however it still keeps an identical wheelbase of 2490mm.

It has a sporty front, with a large air dam flanked by two smaller ones hosting fog lamps, and large headlamps, however I have to disagree with their choice of front grille design – something bigger would have looked better. Trunk space is rated at 250 liters, but with the seats down it enlarges to 469 liters of space. The 2008 Mazda 2 is expected to be unveiled with three engine options, a 1.3 liter petrol (two variants – 74hp/118Nm and 83hp/121Nm), a 1.5 liter petrol (103hp/136Nm) as well as a 1.4 liter turbodiesel.
