2015 Acura TLX GT Race Car in Action - Video

Last week, we talked to you about the new, 2015 Acura TLX GT racer that would be competing in IMSA’s World Challenge series against cars like the Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Huracán, Porsche 911 GT3, and more.
Honda’s latest race car is seeing action again this weekend at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and Racer Magazine was able to get the Acura’s driver, Peter Cunningham, to give us a walk-through of what makes the upcoming 2015 Acura TLX sports sedan capable of keeping up with – and, he hopes, beating! – the sportier-looking alternatives. Enjoy!

The Honda Miimo Is A Robot Lawn Mower

The Honda Miimo lawnmower will keep your lawn perfectly trimmed and then find its way back to the charging dock when it’s done. All you have to do is run a thin wire around the area you want mowed and the Miimo will do the rest.
Several times a week, it will undock itself and proceed to clip precisely 0.8 to 0.11 millimeters (about 1/10th “) off the top of your grass. Instead of following the traditional up and back pattern, it does its mowing in a random pattern. Honda says the small amount of grass removed and the random cutting place less stress on grass, giving you a healthier lawn. It also allows the mower to turn the clippings into compost, eliminating the need to clean up afterwards. No more hauling grass clippings to a remote corner of the yard or worrying about making time to ensure your lawn doesn’t draw the ire of the local HOA.
Miimo has a 360 degree perimeter sensor that also ensures it won’t run into the kids or family pet. If it runs into something unexpected, it will automatically change course and head off in a new direction, and the low deck design makes it almost impossible to actually be hurt by this thing.
Now if we could only program it to bring us a cold beer while we recline in our favorite hammock!

2016 Honda Civic Si to be Made in the USA

2016 Honda Civic Si
While showing off some press pictures of the Europe-only Civic diesel, Honda fan site “All About Honda” claims to have received word that the 2016 Honda Civic and Civic Si will be 100%, all-new for 2016 – and that the company has plans to move all Civic production to the US.
Presumably, that means that all Civic variants (not just the sedans) will be built in East Liberty, Ohio. A move that would, in theory, free up Honda’s Alliston, Ontario plant to focus on the exploding small-SUV segment and production of Honda’s Civic-based CR-V.
Parsing the Engrish over at All About Honda seems to indicate that the next-generation Civic will be a global car without a dedicated “US” and “Euro/JDM” version. That’s the same thinking behind the new-for-2015 Honda Fit, as well, lending credibility to the idea that a 4-door turbocharged hatchback Civic Si is, indeed, coming to America.
Time will tell, I guess.
In the meantime, let us know what you’d think of a turbocharged 2016 Honda Civic Si that’s made in the USA (and, of course, how much extra you’d pay for a McLaren version) in the comments section at the bottom of the page. Enjoy!

2015 Acura TLX Makes Competition Debut at Mid-Ohio

2015 Acura TLX GT

The 2015 Acura TLX sports sedan made its debut earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that Chris and I attended. Weirdly, despite tweeting about it frantically and taking a few pictures of the car’s advanced engine, we didn’t write an article about it then. Consider the car you see here, then – the 2015 Acura TLX GT race car – a lesson in taking Acura seriously.
Set to debut at this weekend’s Mid-Ohio World Challenge GT race, a support race for the IndyCar “main event”, the 2015 Acura TLX GT will compete in the top category of the Pirelli World Challenge, facing competition from the like of the Audi R8, Bentley Continental Supersport, Dodge/SRT Viper, Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren’s MP4/12C GT, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
Serious machinery, in other words.
RealTime Racing owner/driver Peter Cunningham will be behind the wheel of the new Acura, and hopes the flexible engine and willing chassis will help him overcome his more powerful competitors. “The Pirelli World Challenge has a lot of strong competitors in GT, but the TLX is the only all-wheel-drive car in the category. For our four-door sedan to be racing head-to-head with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini … is pretty cool,” he said.
Developed from the production Acura TLX by HPD and RealTime Racing, the Acura TLX GT features an HPD-modified chassis, Honda’s Super-Handling (SH) all-wheel drive system, and aerodynamic performance parts approved for Pirelli World Challenge competition, and is powered by a direct-injected, twin-turbocharged V6 engine similar to the one used by Honda in the IMSA DP category.
“We’re excited to debut the Acura TLX GT race car in front of our ‘hometown’ audience of associates from the many Honda facilities in central Ohio,” said Art St. Cyr, President of Honda Performance Development and Vice President of Auto Operations for American Honda. “The competition in the Pirelli World Challenge is fierce … (but) Acura has never shied away from a challenge. Instead, we seek it out, both on-track and in the marketplace.”
Big words from everyone. Here’s hoping the Honda guys and the RealTime Racing 2015 Acura TLX GT can deliver!

2016 Honda ACX Hydrogen Car Gets Rendered, Looks Good

2016 Honda AC-X

Honda’s successor to its original FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car got teased in the form of the FCEV concept car that debuted in 2013. The concept’s wild styling was expected to carry over, to some extent, to the 2016 Honda ACX- but, Dillon C’s rendering is reliable, it looks like Honda could go in a more conservative direction and launch the car to a larger, more mainstream audience.
Such a move would mirror the hydrogen fuel cell efforts of rivals Hyundai and Toyota, who are bringing their own zero-emissions vehicles to market as 2015 models in the form a fuel-cell Tucson and the fuel-cell FCV that recently debuted in Asia.
Regardless of how accurate the rendering above finally is, however, one thing is certain: Honda is promoting hydrogen as the sparkling clean, water-producing fuel of the future, and has made moves to market the fuel and establish a new infrastructure on the back of existing gas stations in both the US and Japan.
What do you guys think of Dillon’s rendering? Do you think this is the direction Honda’s gonna go, or will they follow up the FCX with something equally wild? Let us know what you think in the comments, below!

2015 Acura NSX Fires Could be Caused by Exploding Batteries

2015 Acura NSX fire

New details surrounding the horrific fire that claimed one of Honda’s 2015 Acura NSX hybrid prototypes at the Nürburgring earlier this week have emerged over at enthusiast site, WorldCarFans. Their (unnamed) source claims that “the fire started at the back (of the NSX) following two explosions of the batteries, and, shortly after that, the flames extended onto the rest of the vehicle.”

NSXテストカー炎上…これは熱対策しなきゃいかんやつですかね pic.twitter.com/r8HPc0VxGP
— ゆう (@_Yu03) July 24, 2014

Needless to say, this particular 2015 Acura NSX is a total loss after the blaze. Still, it’s worth noting that (as with Tesla’s highly-publicized fires last year) no one was hurt as a result of the fire. The test driver, apparently having received some sort of warning in addition to the batteries’ popping, pulled over at the Pflanzgarten corner, safe and sound.
Most importantly, however, is that this NSX test mule did exactly what it was sent out on the track to do: fail. The testers can now take whatever data they can get from the incident, study the physical limitations that led to the explosion, and develop fail-safes that will make it into the production version of the Ohio-built 2015 Acura NSX when it finally does debut early next year (think “Detroit Auto Show” or, possibly, the Super Bowl).
You can head over to WorldCarFans to check out more crash porn, if you’re into that, using the source link, below – and let us know what you think of Honda’s new hybrid super car in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Japan Offers $20,000 For Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles

hydrogen-filling-station

Honda and Toyota, two of Japan’s largest automakers, have wholly embraced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as the alternative fuel of the future. They aren’t alone either, with the Japanese government doling out a huge $20,000 incentive towards the purchase of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, reports Reuters.
That’s more than double the maximum of $8,500 buyers can get back from the purchase of an all-electric vehicle. However, all of the electric vehicles sold by Japanese automakers are much, much cheaper than the $70,000 Toyota FCV, for example. Even so, this generous incentive brings the cost down to a more palatable $50,000 (ish), though that’s no guarantee that buyers are ready to sign on.
As it stands there are just 12 stations online along Japan’s “hydrogen highway”, though by the end of 2015 the number should be closer to 100. Compare that to an estimated 12,000 EV chargers that Japanese automakers are teaming up to install, and even with this huge incentive, electric vehicles seem to have a huge advantage.
Don’t tell that to Toyota or Hyundai though; both automakers are committing tremendous resources to advance hydrogen, cutting off their EV programs at the knees in a bid to make hydrogen viable. In Japan, heavy incentives will certainly help, but can the same generosity be counted on in the U.S. or Europe?
