Review: 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

2009 Chevy Colorado Front Three Quarter View
Finding it tough to curb your craving for V-8 power and prestige? General Motors knows your pain. To man up the lame Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon for 2009, the General blessed the engine roster with a new 300-hp V-8. The result is a mini muscle truck available in two body styles, each with a sticker price of well below $30,000. Take your pick between an extended cab with rear jump seats accessed via rear-hinged half doors and a six-foot bed, or a real four-door crew cab with a rear bench seat and a five-foot bed.

GM's 5.3-liter V-8 is outfitted with an aluminum block and heads, a composite intake manifold, roller lifters, and a regular-unleaded appetite. It delivers its wallop through two- or four-wheel drive. The two-wheel-drive version achieves 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

GM's Performance Division engineers massaged chassis components to make sure this truck's ZQ8 sport suspension appeals to those of the car persuasion. The ride height was lowered an inch, and 50-series Goodyear RS-A tires are mounted to eighteen-by-eight-inch aluminum wheels. Suspension rates are 30 percent stiffer, and the power rack-and-pinion steering gear has a quicker ratio than the standard Colorado and Canyon pickups.

We clocked a two-wheel-drive crew-cab Chevrolet at just under seven seconds for the 0-to-60-mph run on its way to a governed top speed of 125 mph. The ride is satisfyingly firm but still supple over pockmarked pavement. The steering is quick and accurate, although it's not very communicative. Thanks to a standard stability control system and improved brakes, this Colorado doesn't cause its driver to fret by writhing on slippery pavement when the traffic pattern flashes a red alert.

The interior decor is most succinctly described as utilitarian chic, with a few resilient islands in the sea of hard black plastic. The front bucket seats feel convex where they should be concave. On the plus side, leather upholstery and seat heaters are available, the controls are logically arrayed, and there are ample storage locations.

As an antidote to overgrown cowboy trucks or as a garage mate to your pampered sports car, this V-8 fills the bill. Or maybe you simply still enjoy saying good-bye with twin black scorch marks.

2010 Chevrolet Agile, Compact Hatchback is Equipped with an Efficient
The new Chevrolet Agile, the compact hatchback is equipped with an efficient, 1.4L (Econoflex) engine which produces 102 hp at 6000 rpm when fueled with alcohol and 97 hp when running on gasoline developed by the General Motors Powertrain of Brazil.

It utilizes ‘flex fuel’ technology, which enables the car to be fueled with alcohol or gasoline, or with both at any mixture ratio.

2005 Chevy SSR Test Drive and Review

2005 Chevy SSR Test Drive and Review
The coolest thing about Chevy's SSRis that you can really buy one. Ten years ago there's no way a vehicle like the SSR would be seen anywhere but on an auto show turntable. Over the last few years, automakers have started to produce products closer and closer to the concept cars they present to the general public as "styling exercises".

Yet few, if any, have delved so far into the dream-car realm as the SSR.Love it or hate it, you almost can't help but be amazed by it. Everywhere I went, people turned to look -- and while I tried my best to play it cool, it was hard not to watch them watch me...even if they were really watching the SSR.

If the stop-in-your-tracks styling and arrest-me red paint didn't catch their attention, than the rumbling, popping exhaust did, its chrome pipes deftly played by a monster 6-liter V8 borrowed from the Corvette. Just ten fewer horsepower (390) separate it from Chevy's legendary sports car. The new mill replaces the 5.3 liter 300 hp V8 in last year's SSR, while the automatic transmission is joined by a 6-speed manual, a no-cost option. The SSR holds the road like no other truck I've driven, begging the question: Is this a truck or a sports car? The line has been totally blurred.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze – First Drive Review

New Chevrolet Cruze review
We’ve had our share of Daewoo-engineered cars in North America. There was the late-1980s Pontiac LeMans, the forgettable Suzuki Reno and Forenza, and Chevrolet’s uninspired Aveo econobox—all products of the Korean automaker. And don’t forget the actual Daewoo-badged cars that were sold here. Why give the Korean company another chance?
Unfazed by criticism of previous Daewoo-designed cars, GM gave the Koreans design leadership for the new Chevrolet Cruze compact car. A true world car to be sold around the globe, the Cruze will take the place of the Cobalt in Chevy’s U.S. lineup. Moreover, the Cruze is the first iteration of GM’s Delta II platform, which will host a number of new, global vehicles, including the Chevrolet Orlando MPV, the next-gen Opel/Vauxhall Astra, and an upcoming Buick version of the Astra.

Heading to the Continent First for Its Shakedown Cruise

New Chevrolet Cruze review

Europe gets the Cruze first; we’ll have to wait for another year. We drove the Cruze at the European launch in Spain on the Gulf of Biscay. It must be said that the Cruze is a relatively minor deal in the Old World, since GM generates big sales in this segment with the Opel/Vauxhall Astra, which is sold as a Saturn in America. In Europe, the Cruze merely replaces the Daewoo Lacetti and Nubira—two inexpensive and nondescript entries sold here as the Suzuki Reno and Forenza, respectively.
In the U.S., though, the Cruze plays a different role, and GM needs to get it right. To be built at the Lordstown, Ohio, plant, the new sedan is expected to become one of GM’s major sellers over the next few years. The extra year on the Continent should allow GM to work out the kinks before making the car available in its most vital market.
The Cruze is also significant because Chevrolet claims it ushers in a new styling language for the brand. We have to wait to see what that means for future Chevys, but we can say that the Cruze definitely looks good from nearly every angle. The front end is aggressive and powerful, and the rear impresses with its wide stance and taillights similar in shape to those of the BMW 7-series and Lexus LS. Perhaps the least original aspect is the side view; we have seen this roofline and window opening on many cars, although rarely on such a compact model. On the road, the proportions seem just right. The Cruze manages to look masculine and cool, unlike most of its competitors, which, frankly, can be slightly embarrassing to be seen in.
No Diesels for the U.S., But Expect the Turbo Four to be Very Efficient
In Europe, the Cruze launches with two gasoline four-cylinders—a 1.6-liter that makes 111 hp and a 1.8-liter producing 139 hp—and a 148-hp, 2.0-liter turbo-diesel that likely will spawn a 123-hp variant in the future. A five-speed manual is standard on all engines, while the more-powerful gasoline mill can be ordered with an optional six-speed automatic. We’ll see the 1.8-liter gasoline engine here, as well as a 140-hp, turbocharged 1.4-liter gasoline four-cylinder—expected to return at least 40 mpg combined—that will debut as the car hits the North American market. And here’s hoping we’ll also be treated to a 260-hp SS version powered by the fire-breathing, turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec engine, although GM’s High-Performance Vehicle Operations have been put on hold.
Solidly Built and Drives Well

New Chevrolet Cruze review

The Cruze is low on breakthrough technologies, but it is a thoroughly well-engineered car, with an ultra-strong structure and a low center of gravity. GM says 65 percent of its body and structure are made from high-strength steel. The fit and finish is improved over current GM small cars, as highlighted by the small gaps between the body panels, which require precise stamping and accurate assembly. On the road, the rigid body and the extensive sound dampening translate into less noise.

2010 Chevrolet Agile revealed, will it work as the Aveo replacement?

Chevrolet Agile 2010
General Motors today revealed the first image of the new 2010 Chevrolet Agile for the Brazilian market. Sales in Brazil will begin in October later this year with a 1.0L 4-cylinder engine under the hood.
“The Agile goes beyond a traditional hatchback. Our task was to conduct a vehicle for a demanding client. Great design, interior space and a crossover, ie a car transpired versatility to attract customers from a different urban public or to a surfer who loves the countryside, “said Carlos Barba, General Director of GM Design Mercosur.

Honestly, we’re a bit disappointed by the looks of the new 2010 Agile, especially when compared to the sketches revealed last month.

No word on whether the Agile will provide the basis for the next-generation Aveo in the United States, but we sure hope not. Especially, if it’s looking to compete with the Ford Fiesta.

REVIEWS: Chevrolet Aveo

Chevrolet Aveo Front Drivers Side View
After countless attempts to sell misbegotten small cars, Chevrolet finally has stumbled onto something. The new Aveo ("ah-VAY-o") is the automotive equivalent of the nickel cigar. With a starting price of $9995, this Korean-built bow-tie baby is every high-schooler's alternative to a hand-me-down Buick Regal.

The Aveo rides high, as a Chrysler PT Cruiser does, and it seats five. Italdesign styled the wart-free exterior. Fourteen-inch wheels and tires help avoid the shopping-cart look. Take your pick between a dead-conventional four-door and the short but chic five-door with a fold-and-flip back seat. Motivation comes from a free-revving 1.6-liter four-cylinder. Interior trim fits snugly and is finished with interesting textures.
A rubber-isolated front cross member takes the edge off potholes and expansion joints. Steering response is quick and friction-free; the dampers don't play dead when a frisky driver is at the wheel. Still, the Aveo won't be confused with a Mini Cooper. Its shift lever is long enough for school-bus duty, and its throttle hangs open during every gearchange.

But give Chevy credit for leaping back into the entry-level game with a car that frugal but fashion-conscious drivers can be proud to own.

2007 Chevrolet Aveo Review

2007 Chevrolet Aveo
Ponder the past 30-plus years of automobiles, and it’s clear how much has changed. There’s technology that adds levels of safety and entertainment never imagined in the ‘70s, complete vehicle types which had yet to be dreamt of, and a focus on efficiency and environmental impact that was in its infancy. But through it all, one fact has remained constant – Chevrolet has yet to prove that it can build the best subcompact car. The Korean-sourced 2007 Aveo is a fine sedan, admittedly bettering its predecessor with dressed up style and improved driving dynamics, yet it still lags behind rivals such as the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa, suggesting that as much as some things change, others shall remain forever constant.

Chevrolet Silverado

Chevrolet Silverado
Chevrolet has come up with a 2008 model for its Chevrolet Silverado. The latest model features revisions as well as improvements that will further make the Chevy Silverado closer to the hearts of those that are already endeared to it. Among the many Chevrolet trucks, it is the Silverado that is considered to be its strongest. It has the power side by side with good fuel economy. And as the price of fuel continuous to be erratic, having a truck as such is a big thing. Normally, big vehicles such as truck require a lot of fuel to run. But when it comes to the Chevy Silverado, this is definitely not the case.

Among the awards that the latest Silverado is able to bag since it was introduced are the 2007 Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year Award, the Pickup category winner of the Car and Driver’s 2007 Five Best Trucks evaluation, and the 2007 North American Truck of the Year. According to Ed Peper, the general manager of Chevrolet “[t]he redesigned Silverado is a winner in all respects. Its combination of style, capability and refinement make it the segment benchmark and we’re working all the time to make it even better.”

2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
The 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt ranks 23 out of 29 Affordable Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 80 published reviews and test drives of the Chevrolet Cobalt, and our analysis of reliability and safety data. The Chevy Cobalt is surprisingly fun to drive for an inexpensive car, boasts solid fuel economy, and is available with one of the nicest stereo systems found in this price range. But its seats are simply uncomfortable to many reviewers, and its styling looks out of date.

But the Cobalt can't crack the top half of the huge small car class because it is small inside, with too little rear-seat space for adults. Hard seats in front and back are a common complaint. And its styling looks dated next to most other small cars.

GM Recall 2010: 1.3 Million Cars Include Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, And Others

GM Recall 2010
General Motors Co. said Monday it will recall 1.3 million Chevrolet and Pontiac compact cars sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to fix power steering motors that can fail. The recall affects 2005 to 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts, 2007 to 2010 Pontiac G5s, 2005 and 2006 Pontiac Pursuits sold in Canada and 2005 and 2006 Pontiac G4s sold in Mexico.

The automaker said the vehicles are still safe to drive and never lose their steering, but it may be harder to steer them when traveling under 15 mph.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said it will take time for the automaker to get 1.3 million new power steering motors from the supplier, JTEKT Corp., and GM will notify car owners when the parts are available.

Adler said the failures are rare and the cars can still be driven until motors can be replaced by dealers. Drivers will see a warning light and hear a chime if the power steering fails, but they could be surprised when the steering becomes more difficult.

GM told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the recall on Monday. NHTSA began an investigation into 905,000 of the models on Jan. 27 after getting 1,100 complaints that the cars lost their power steering assist. The complaints included 14 crashes and one injury.

The automaker will fix older models first because it usually takes 20,000 to 30,000 miles of driving for the condition to develop, Adler said. GM also will have to repair thousands of vehicles on dealer lots before they can be sold, he said.

"Recalling these vehicles is the right thing to do for our customers' peace of mind," Jamie Hresko, GM's vice president of quality, said in a statement.

Adler said if the power steering assist fails, it usually comes back for a time after the car is shut off and restarted.
