Yet few, if any, have delved so far into the dream-car realm as the SSR.Love it or hate it, you almost can't help but be amazed by it. Everywhere I went, people turned to look -- and while I tried my best to play it cool, it was hard not to watch them watch me...even if they were really watching the SSR.
If the stop-in-your-tracks styling and arrest-me red paint didn't catch their attention, than the rumbling, popping exhaust did, its chrome pipes deftly played by a monster 6-liter V8 borrowed from the Corvette. Just ten fewer horsepower (390) separate it from Chevy's legendary sports car. The new mill replaces the 5.3 liter 300 hp V8 in last year's SSR, while the automatic transmission is joined by a 6-speed manual, a no-cost option. The SSR holds the road like no other truck I've driven, begging the question: Is this a truck or a sports car? The line has been totally blurred.
